Murphysboro, Illinois - September 13, 2008

I went to high school my sophomore through senior year at Murphysboro Township High School in Murphysboro, Illinois. There are many apple orchards in the area, and each year at about the same time as my birthday, the town would have its famous Apple Festival. This year was also my high school class's 40th reunion, so I could not resist going. So...

The Apple Festival Queen.

An Apple Festival Princess with a trophy twice her size.

"Ripe with Possibilities" was the theme for the parade this year.

Bald Knob Cross is a local landmark. This float was just ahead of the Class of '68 float in the staging area.

Me and fellow classmates on the float, waiting for the parade to begin. The temperature was hitting 100.

More folks on the float.

Pat Cook and fellow classmate.

The Green Party followed us in the parade line-up.

We're starting to roll!

Prize-winning storefront exhibit, combining local Christianity with local produce.

The other window of the display.

Where does an Apple Festival Queen go to cool down? Why, the Dairy Queen, of course! These royal beauties wouldn't let me take their picture until they'd put on their tiaras. I know the feeling.
