On July 14, 1998, while riding a bicycle along the Elbow River in Calgary,
Alberta, I fell and fractured my left arm. Before long, I was
in the capable care of the Canadian Health Care System.
- Here
is an X-ray of the fracture. It distinctly shows the broken
left radius. Not easily visible is a fracture of the distal
ulnar styloid, a common cofactor in these kinds of injuries.
- Here
is an X-ray of the arm after insertion of a plate to stabilize
the bone while it heals.
- It turns out that this type of fracture is a classic and even has
a name: Galeazzi's Fracture. For an excellent discussion of
Galeazi's Fracture, see
Wheeless' Textbook of Orthopaedics.
