Some meditation paths use first a one-pointedness method to strengthen concentration and then shift into a mindfulness approach, where you watch the flow of mind with a centered awareness that does not get swept away, but simply notes what arises. With diligence, something quite startling happens: the illusion of the coherence of self begins to break down. And that begins another kind of profound psychological shift, the perception of emptiness.
